IDB Country Rep Details Structural Challenges at the PSOJ Chairman’s Club Forum

As Keynote Speaker at the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica’s (PSOJ) Chairman’s Club Forum at the Jamaica Pegasus, Gerard Johnson, the Country Representative for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), discussed a post-International Monetary fund (IMF) Jamaica based on the Government’s economic agenda and the adjustments that have to be made. Mr. Johnson addressed a crowd that included some of Jamaica’s key business figures, his presentation titled “Life After the IMF”, which detailed challenges faced by the country and the consequent support to be received from the IDB.

CRIME SITUATION REQUIRES ACTION NOW!

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is urging immediate action from our political leaders who are charged with the responsibility of protecting our nation from the scourge of crime and violence.   PSOJ President Christopher Zacca made this call against the background of the shocking and terrible start of the new year 2009, which has already seen a significant number of reported cases of murder and other violent crimes in Jamaica.

“At NCB, ensuring that our Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) receive the support
and training they need to propel them in their course towards nation-building is of great
importance,” stated NCB Group Managing Director, Patrick Hylton at the signing of the
Technical Cooperation Agreement partnership between National Commercial Bank
Jamaica Ltd (NCB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

ZACCA ELECTED PSOJ PRESIDENT

Christopher Zacca was elected as the 16th President of The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), when the Council of the Organisation met on July 19, 2012 at the Tree House meeting room at Zoo Kingston, hosted by Guardsman Limited. Zacca was previously president from 2006 – 2009. Also elected were Vice Presidents Richard Byles of Sagicor, Don Wehby of GraceKennedy and Keith Duncan of Jamaica Money Market Brokers. Jacqueline Sharp of Scotiabank was returned as the Honorary Treasurer. The proposed Honorary Secretary, Christopher Barnes of the Gleaner Company, will be appointed by the Executive Committee when next it meets, consequent on the resignation of the current Honorary Secretary, Earl Jarrett.

MATALON GETS THIRD TERM AS PSOJ PRESIDENT

Mr. Joseph M. Matalon, CD, Chairman of the ICD Group, was unanimously elected to a third term in office as President of The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) at the Organisation’s Council meeting held on June 23 at the Hope Road offices of The PSOJ.

PSOJ PRESIDENT REFUTES SEAGA’S ALLEGATIONS

The President of The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), Joseph M. Matalon, has expressed outrage at allegations made by former Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Western Kingston, The Most Hon. Edward Seaga, that he made statements insensitive to the loss of life and alleged human rights abuses resulting from the recent operations by the Security Forces in the area.

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is encouraging the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to continue their relentless and courageous efforts to restore law and order in certain sections of the Capital.  

Like all law abiding citizens of Jamaica, members of the PSOJ deeply and sincerely regret the loss of lives of, and injuries sustained by, innocent Jamaicans who may have been caught in the crossfire, as well as those brave members of the security forces who have paid the ultimate price as they have engaged with criminal elements, particularly over the past week.

At its Annual General Meeting this morning, the members of The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) unanimously voiced their support for the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) for their unrelenting efforts as they work steadfastly, courageously and tirelessly to restore the Rule of Law and bring order to sections of the Corporate Area as well as to apprehend criminal elements, including alleged drug don Christopher Coke who is wanted for extradition to the USA.
