THE PSOJ SUPPORTS THE JAMAICA DEBT EXCHANGE

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) supports the decision
taken by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) to execute the Jamaica Debt
Exchange (JDX). This transaction is consistent with the PSOJ’s own
Economic Policy Framework and recommendations made to the Government.

PSOJ'S RESPONSE TO HIKE IN INTEREST RATES

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica views with concern the recent move by the Bank of Jamaica to sharply increase interest rates on its Certificates of Deposit.  This will inevitably raise interest rates across the financial system, putting more pressure on an already weak real economy at a time when the global economic crisis is placing severe pressure on Jamaica.

IDB Country Rep Details Structural Challenges at the PSOJ Chairman’s Club Forum

As Keynote Speaker at the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica’s (PSOJ) Chairman’s Club Forum at the Jamaica Pegasus, Gerard Johnson, the Country Representative for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), discussed a post-International Monetary fund (IMF) Jamaica based on the Government’s economic agenda and the adjustments that have to be made. Mr. Johnson addressed a crowd that included some of Jamaica’s key business figures, his presentation titled “Life After the IMF”, which detailed challenges faced by the country and the consequent support to be received from the IDB.

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is encouraging the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to continue their relentless and courageous efforts to restore law and order in certain sections of the Capital.  

Like all law abiding citizens of Jamaica, members of the PSOJ deeply and sincerely regret the loss of lives of, and injuries sustained by, innocent Jamaicans who may have been caught in the crossfire, as well as those brave members of the security forces who have paid the ultimate price as they have engaged with criminal elements, particularly over the past week.

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is calling on the Government to share with the nation its approach to dealing with the escalating crime situation. The PSOJ views with concern the recent rise in the murder rate and the appalling and brazen attacks on our security forces.

CRIME SITUATION REQUIRES ACTION NOW!

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is urging immediate action from our political leaders who are charged with the responsibility of protecting our nation from the scourge of crime and violence.   PSOJ President Christopher Zacca made this call against the background of the shocking and terrible start of the new year 2009, which has already seen a significant number of reported cases of murder and other violent crimes in Jamaica.

June 23, 2008 - PSOJ Members Assist Major Investigation Task Force Unit (MIT)

The Jamaica Constabulary Force hosted the official opening of the offices of the Major Investigation Task Force, part of the Organised Crime Unit, last Friday, June 20, 2008. The offices are now located in spacious quarters in the Kingston Mall, Downtown Kingston.

June 28, 2008: PSOJ CONDEMNS BRUTAL MURDER OF JUTC CHAIRMAN

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) condemns the brazen and brutal slaying of Mr. Douglas Chambers, Chairman of the state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) and extends deep and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr. Chambers who are now grieving this untimely loss.
