Crime Stop Jamaica began in 1989 following concerns expressed to the government of the day by a group of private sector businesses and service organisations that something must be done to re-establish the rule of law and security of the people. The decision was taken by the PSOJ, to set up a partnership between the media, private sector, the police and the community, by offering rewards for information given anonymously that would lead to the arrest of criminals and the recovery of stolen property, illegal firearms and illegal narcotics.
